Saturday 4 October: Reading Town Harvest at the Butter Market

Reading Food Growing Network is running this event. Join in with the workshops and activities, swap your surplus produce: Workshops on chutney making, apple cheese, cider making, apple pressing, recycled baskets and more. Transition Town Reading Steering Group Meeting: Monday 6 October, 7:30pm at Great Expectations Pub.

Come along and help to plan the future direction of TTR. We look at funding, communications, the website and think about what we should focus on next.

Better Recycling and Less Waste: Thursday 9 October, 6:30pm, Highbridge House

This open meeting will discuss how people in Reading can recycle more and throw away less. The meeting has been set up in response to interest from members of the Greater Reading Environmental Network (GREN) and Reading Neighbourhood Network (RNN).

The meeting is at Highbridge House, 16-18 Duke Street (over the Futon shop, entry via Thorn Lane) at 7:00 pmon Thursday 9th October with refreshments from 6:30.

Moving Beyond Burning – a closer look at biomass: Wednesday 15 October at RISC

Government plans for renewable energy involve burning lots of wood imported from abroad – but does this make sense in terms of energy security, carbon emissions, and wildlife conservation?

Biofuelwatch www.biofuelwatch.org.uk campaigner Duncan Law will visit from London to present this talk at a Reading Friends of the Earth meeting in Room 3 at RISC, 35-39 London Street, RG1 4PS

Repair Cafe 1st Birthday Party! at Jacksons: Saturday 18 October, 10am-3pm

Come along and learn to repair your broken things!
Clothes, Electronics, mechanical items, toys, furniture, blunt / broken tools.
Also, as it’s our birthday, there will be extra activities, including:

• Clothes Swap and Stuff Swap – bring and take with clothes, household items, toys and more.
• Upcycling from bike parts
• Coding workshop for kids
• Birthday cake and entertainment (tbc…)

So come along, join in the fun and bring along your friends and family to help us celebrate a year of repairing and upcycling!

Projects Meeting: Monday 20 October, 7:30pm at Great Expectations Pub

Come along for updates on and next steps about ongoing and new projects. We’re particularly looking for people to take an active role in helping with Abundance and the community orchards. If you have new ideas for projects, this is a great opportunity to bounce them off other interested people, get feedback and support.
Draught proofing

Is your house draughty and cold? Is it expensive to heat?

Transition Town Reading’s draught-busting project may be able to help! The materials could be paid for by a grant from Reading Borough Council if you meet certain conditions and the work is done by the end of March. The work should only take a couple of hours and if you know of people who need our help please contact us. If you would like to help with this project please join us, you don’t need to be an expert. We can show you how easy it is to carry out draught proofing for yourself and to help your friends and neighbours do their homes.
